Accidentally bought a "naked whiskey" eg, it's unaged. It's nasty. How do I not waste my money?
Pretty much the title. Not a super expensive whiskey, but it's from my hometown's newish distillery and thought I'd finally try them out. I grabbed the only whiskey bottle they had on the shelf I was looking at. Didn't occur to me to be too careful looking at the bottle. I brought it home, popped the cork, and...
It smelled really bad. Giving the benefit of the doubt, I tried it, and it tasted worse. I looked at the label to find out how this can be so very different than other whiskeys I've tried, and it's basically unaged. The label said "aged in an oak barrel for one minute"
It's very sour and chemically tasting. I'm not sure, but the taste seems very corn-like. I did only spend $35, but for me that's not nothing. I don't know what to do to turn this into something palatable. I don't want it to go to waste.
Also, I think I still want to try their actual whiskey.
Edit: maybe for a reference as to my tastes, my favorite whiskey is Woodford Reserve, I enjoy Jack Daniels and Jameson, and I've enjoyed samples of different types of Scotch which I may not even be able to name, though I enjoy that kind of boldness.
