Working with sirens?

Is there anyone who work with sirens, esp Thelxinoe? I am thinking about working with her. Is there anything I should be aware of? Do I need an altar? I do have a rose quartz crystal carving that looks like/ represents mermaid, can I use it as her symbol? Or would that ve disrespectful? What are some dos and don'ts?
