In latest episode, Cyclops’ actions make sense
I think this episode subtly showed some hints of revolutionary Cyclops, in the sense of being in-between Xavier and Magneto’s position.
Scott doesn’t defect to Magneto, as some predicted; but he also seems much more concerned with the Prime Sentinels coming back online than does Charles.
He’s not a mutant supremacist…but he also won’t let Xavier’s sanctimoniousness doom his people (and the Gold team) - even if it means letting Magneto kick around a bit more.
The series has shown that Xavier’s moralism gets mutants killed; and Magneto’s vengeance gets humans killed. Cyclops is trying to balance the two in the moment. I like it.
EDITS / RESPONSE TO COMMENTS:
Whoa, more activity than I expected. For those saying that the show rushes important moments like this, I actually agree - but I also enjoy the super fast thrill ride, so it’s a wash IMO. 🤷🏻♂️
For those saying I’m reading too much into this - I said “subtly showed some hints” of character themes consistent with revolutionary Scott. Not that they were explicitly going to build to that. BUT Scott’s alienation from Charles is very clearly an important plot point this season. So I don’t think it’s crazy to speculate where it may lead.
For those saying (I think?) that Scott was ONLY trying to save the Gold Team, as opposed to thinking about the Prime Sentinels’ overall threat to mutantkind; he explicitly says “sir, what about the Prime Sentinels?” when they start attacking Magneto - BEFORE Jean and Cable start fighting. He clearly feels like their job on the Asteroid is to stop Magneto while stalling for the Prime Sentinels to be shut down. In contrast, Charles is much more obsessed with punishing magneto ASAP.
Lastly, I’m not saying “Cyclops was right” in the sense that he can do no wrong. For example, he’s pretty much responsible for what happened to Logan, because he stopped Charles from shutting down Magneto!
