Essentials and Pins

Is there a way to sorta freeze the essentials and pins? Let me explain Let’s say I add YouTube to essentials, I’m watching a vid and say oh I need something on Amazon so I go to URL bar and go to Amazon. Instead of opening a new tab it changes my YouTube essentials to Amazon now. This is pretty annoying. Hate comparing Arc to zen but when I do this sort of action it opens a new tab so the essentials never change. Is there a setting or something I’m missing?
