Floating URL Bar not showing

Ever since 1.6-7b update, the floating url bar only appears whilst typing in the side url panel. I've set the settings to 'Always floating' under 'zen-url-bar' and tried the other options, but it makes no difference.

All it does it prompt the url bar on the side panel, when clicking 'new tab' or using the shortcut on macOS. It seems 'Always floating' option is broken in the settings.

I've tried reinstalling and starting afresh many times, the floating url bar shows for a few minutes, but then same problem arises again randomly. I have zero (0) mods/css tweaks enabled, so I don't know what the issue is.

Anyone having the same issue? I know it's beta stage, but It's very frustrating to use, and surprised it still hasn't been addressed in 1.8.1b. For now, I have to disable the 'new tab' experience using `about:config`.
