Hey I work in schools in Washington, and schools here pay teachers very well. It is a relatively high cost of living so it kind of balances out, but no one I know working in schools here is struggling. I recommend the west side of the state though. Spokane is pretty conservative. Me and my trans nonbinary partner feel very happy and safe within a couple hours of seattle

Do you have affordable city suggestions? The biggest worry with washington is that we come from an area where the median house is 280-300k... but that will be the hard part. Also being young it will be hard to transfer our teaching cert since we are under 3 years experience sadly.

In my experience local schools are very understanding and helpful with getting an in state cert. Also the wa state OSPI website is pretty helpful and user friendly. I am not a teacher, but I'm under the same union, and coming over from Illinois was pretty painless.
