What’s one person you wished you had a direct relation to?
My coward of a 4th Grandfather, Andrew Jackson Baker. He stayed home while his brothers went and fought in the Union Army.
My 4th Great Grandfather, George Washington Hoffman. He served with the 15th WV Infantry in the Union army. He died of pneumonia during Petersburg, missing Appomattox. City Point National Cemetery.
Some great stuff my 4th Grandfathers have here, they’re two of my very few direct ancestors that “served” in the Union Army. 🤦🏻♂️
My 4th Grandfather, Joseph Hignight. Looking at his Fold3 cards, calling him a “veteran” is a bit inaccurate. Circa 1840s

I’m ashamed of my Confederate ancestors, and I have barely any Union vets to make up for it.
This is the second time I’ve got stuff wrong about my family Civil War life.
Unfortunately, I have more family that didn’t fight in the Union Army during the Civil War. One of them being my 3rd Grandfather, Allen Haley Taylor, for the 4th Alabama Cav. He was apparently the last Confederate vets in Franklin County.

A portrait I had taken at the 160th Bentonville Reenactment. Inspired by the photo of Edwin Francis Jemison.
My 3x great-grandfather, John Thomas Wilson, served in the Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Found this article detailing a letter he wrote to his hometown paper in 1862 while fighting in North Carolina.
Gravestone of my 5th Grandfather at Zollicoffer Park, who was killed at Mill Springs. His son deserted the day after his death, while another one of his sons was fighting in a Union Kentucky regiment.
My 4th Great Uncle, Sgt. Wiley Baker. He served with 4 of his brothers in the 8th Kentucky Infantry (Union) until he was killed in action at Stones River. Buried at the Stones River National Cemetery.
Disappointing number of Southern apologists in the comments
My 5th Grandfather, Robert Davidson. One of my few direct ancestors that fought in the Union Army. I’m trying to be prideful of my ancestors. Buried in the Martin-Davidson Cemetery in Oneida, Clay, Kentucky.

My 4th Great Uncle, James Baker (R), in a snazzy outfit, a cane, and a Bible in his lap. He served with 3 of his brothers in the 8th Kentucky Infantry for the Union Army. C. 1880s
My 4th Great Uncle, James Baker (R), looking like a total bad ass with a snazzy outfit, a cane, and a Bible in his lap. He served with 3 of his brothers in the 8th Kentucky Infantry for the Union Army.
